Lake Hickory Fishing Report 2/13/2025

Area of lake fished: Above 321

Access used: Private, fished from bank. Nearest boat ramp is Geitner Park

Target Species: Catfish

Bait Used: Red Wigglers

Rig Used: Dual drop shot rig, 3/4 oz sinker, size 6 aberdeen hooks tied with dropper loops

Due to a recent influx of rain and muddy water, I thought today would be good for catfishing. My guess was correct, and I ended up having a stellar day, I caught and released many nice sized channel cats. Lake Rhodhiss dam is moving lots of water into the lake hickory right now, and the river section above 321 had very strong current today. With so much water moving through the system, it's best to target eddies and deep holes, where the catfish can sit in the slack water and easily capture prey being carried down by the current. My modified drop shot rig baited with red wigglers was all that was needed for constant action today. In addition to the many catfish that were caught, the white perch were also very active, and I was catching them two at a time.
